7XFM is a sophisticated 4-operator FM synthesizer complemented by a 7-track sequencer, designed for seamless integration with applications like AUM and Audiobus through Ableton Link. The app offers an extensive range of synthesizer parameters typical of FM synthesis, enhanced by additional modulation capabilities.

Users can modulate operators over time using an LFO, alongside dynamic adjustments for amplitude and pitch, activated via an ACCENT feature. The platform provides a selection of preset frequencies for both carrier and modulator sounds, drawing inspiration from renowned synthesizers such as the Orla DSE and Bohm FM Expander. This allows for the creation of iconic FM sounds ranging from punchy basslines to ethereal 80s pads and experimental sound effects.

The sequencer effectively employs 7 channels, each dedicated to distinct tonal sequences. Users can either engage in step editing or utilize the PIANO ROLL for expedited sequence placement. Furthermore, the application allows for random step generation, enabling users to select pitches or shuffle sequences at will.

The PIANO ROLL feature facilitates the rapid creation of melodies and basslines. It allows users to double-click steps to cycle through octaves or erase steps using finger gestures. Additional functionality includes masking keys for defined swiping across bars, enhancing the efficiency of step placement.

Each track is equipped with essential effects such as echo, reverb, and low-pass filtering, contributing to an immersive soundscape that emulates analog synthesizers.

Creative options abound with the inclusion of second and third voice generators, incorporating detune and semitone transposition to achieve rich chorus effects or harmonization. An auto level ducking feature can be activated with inputs from bass metronome or any selected track, while playback timing options let users trigger notes at quarter or eighth timings, thereby extending sequence duration potentially equivalent to 512 steps. Additionally, features such as "mutate tone" and "randomise tone" provide dynamic sonic evolution away from the original sound.

The global transpose functionality permits simultaneous transposition across all channels, supporting complex layered melodies while allowing specific tracks to be excluded through TR LOCK—the function particularly useful for sound effects.

Song mode acts as a playlist management system where users can chain programs from current or saved files. Within this mode, any track can be muted, global transposition can be applied, and other controls such as resetting counters at the start or overriding step lengths are available. Users can record the chained programs and subsequently export audio while retaining individual program integrity.

Recording functionalities extend to loops which can be easily exported via AudioCopy or Audioshare, in addition to email and iOS Folder options. Tones, sequences, and complete programs can also be shared across devices or with others.

The app's syncing capabilities are commendable, supporting both Ableton Link and MIDI connections for seamless integration with external hardware and other applications while maintaining rhythmical unity.

AUDIO ROUTING allows main audio output to flow into various apps like Audiobus or AUM for further recording or processing opportunities. External control is facilitated through MIDI note inputs and volume adjustments per track/channel using specific MIDI CC numbers while ensuring that multiple MIDI commands per sequence are not accepted.
